The IDF confirmed Thursday that Captain Eliab Haim Tzeflamus, a 21-year-old officer from Haifa serving in Battalion 603 of the 7th Brigade, was killed in an operational accident in southern Lebanon. Three soldiers were lightly injured in the incident.
The serious incident occurred Wednesday afternoon when an IDF "Humvee" vehicle overturned during an operational activity by forces from the 7th Brigade in the Litani area of southern Lebanon. Tzeflamus was killed and three other soldiers sustained light injuries.
The IDF stated the incident is under investigation. Separately, the IDF reported that earlier on Thursday, two soldiers were lightly injured in another operational accident in southern Lebanon due to improper handling of ammunition. These soldiers were evacuated for medical treatment and their families were notified.
Captain Tzeflamus's funeral is scheduled for Friday at 1:00 PM at the military cemetery in Haifa. He is the first fatality since September 24, when two reservists were killed by a drone explosion in Gaza.
Defense Minister Israel Katz expressed condolences to the family, stating, "In this difficult hour, my heart is with the family of Captain Eliab Haim Tzeflamus, a combat officer in the 7th Brigade, who fell during operational activity in southern Lebanon. On behalf of the entire defense establishment, I share in the family's deep sorrow and strengthen his commanders and friends."
Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav described Tzeflamus as a "heroic generation" member and a Haifa resident. His former teacher, Galit Savir, remembered him as an outstanding, value-driven, and mature student with leadership qualities who was loved by his peers.
