Captain Eliab Haim Tzfalamus, 21, from Haifa, was killed during operational activity in the Litani area of southern Lebanon when an IDF Humvee he was traveling in overturned. Three other soldiers sustained light injuries in the incident and were evacuated to a hospital. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.

The IDF confirmed on Thursday evening that Captain Tzfalamus, a combat officer in the 603rd Battalion of the 7th Brigade, died during the operation. Initial details indicate the vehicle overturned earlier that day while a force from the 7th Brigade was operating in the Litani region.

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav eulogized Tzfalamus, stating, "Eliab went out to defend his people and his country and will not return. He was part of a generation of heroes of the State of Israel, a generation of young people with dreams, aspirations, and a whole future ahead of them, who carry immense responsibility for the country's security and the peace of its citizens. A generation that reminds us all what mission, dedication, and love of country are."

Yahav also noted that Tzfalamus's mother, Chali, is an employee of the Haifa Municipality. The mayor expressed shock and sorrow on behalf of Tzfalamus's colleagues.

Earlier this week, two cadets from the Gefen Battalion in an officers' course were seriously and moderately injured in an operational accident in southern Lebanon. Initial investigations suggest they were wounded in the town of Majdal Zoun by a grenade explosion during a search for suspects. Last month, Master Sergeants (Res.) Nadav Kalai and Ofek Moalem were killed by an exploding IDF drone in a Gaza Strip post. An initial investigation indicated the soldiers were operating two armed drones when one fell inside the post. When they approached the drone, it apparently exploded, causing fatal injuries. The investigation suggested the drone did not malfunction due to jamming or electronic warfare by Hamas, but was a standard drone on an approved mission.
