The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Tuesday that it carried out strikes in southern Lebanon to eliminate what it called an immediate threat. According to an IDF spokesperson, the targets were armed militants spotted near Israeli forces operating in the security zone in southern Lebanon.
The army said it identified, “a short time ago,” an armed cell operating near IDF troops in the area of Jabal Ali al-Tahir. After the identification and a rapid targeting process, the forces struck the militants north of the security zone.
The IDF said the action was taken specifically “in order to remove the threat.” No further details were provided in the statement about casualties or the wider circumstances of the operation.
