Jewish Rioters Attack Palestinian Village, Injure Border Police Officers

Over 100 Jewish individuals identified as rioters stormed the Palestinian village of Jalud in the Samaria region overnight Tuesday. The incident occurred while Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) were escorting a Palestinian family, the Toubassis, attempting to return to their home. The family had been forced to abandon their house approximately two months prior after it was besieged for weeks by Jewish rioters who subsequently took control of it.

The Supreme Court had ordered the family's return within two weeks on September 6th. However, security forces informed the family last week that their return would be delayed due to the rioters' occupation of the home. During the attempt to escort the family back Tuesday night, the rioters blocked roads, set vehicles and tires ablaze, hurled stones at the forces, and set the family's house on fire.

During the ensuing chaos, three Border Police officers sustained minor injuries, and a security vehicle was damaged. The rioters also attempted to attack the family members directly. The IDF stated that two suspects were arrested and transferred for investigation. Forensic investigators were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence. The Toubassi family was ultimately evacuated from the area by the forces.

Mahmoud Toubassi, the family patriarch, recounted that the rioters began throwing stones, prompting soldiers to decide to evacuate the family. He expressed disbelief at the actions of the Jewish individuals and stated that the family wanted to return to their home. He added that they had warned the army that the settlers would return and harm them.

Security officials condemned the violence, vandalism, and attacks on security personnel, emphasizing that such incidents distract from security operations and undermine stability. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the riots and the assault on security forces, stating that the rioters do not represent law-abiding settlers and cause them significant harm. He expressed support for the IDF and Border Police and called for the full force of the law to be applied to the perpetrators.

President Isaac Herzog described the violence as a severe act that must be dealt with harshly, calling it a moral stain and a blow to the rule of law and fundamental values. He noted the timing during the Sukkot holiday, a period significant for Israeli settlement tradition, and stated that such violence contradicts Jewish values. Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenasi also condemned the acts as heinous and called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice, stating they harm Israeli values, Jewish settlement, and Israel itself.
