Israel Recalls Diplomats, Summons Envoys After European Actions

The Netherlands summoned Israel's ambassador on Monday following Israel's decision to revoke the diplomatic status of Dutch representatives operating in Ramallah. Dutch Foreign Minister Tom B. described the Israeli move as "unnecessary" and expressed regret. The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that the Dutch diplomats in Ramallah must return their Israeli-issued diplomatic documentation within seven days, after which their immunities and privileges will expire. This action was a response to the Netherlands' implementation of a ban on the import, purchase, and sale of products originating from settlements in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.

Israeli Foreign Minister G.S. stated that if the Netherlands wishes to continue representing its interests with the Palestinians, it can do so from the Palestinian Authority's territories, not from within Israel. Last month, Saar also ordered the removal of Dutch representatives from the International Support Center for Gaza in Kiryat Gat.

Israel has taken similar measures against other European countries. Spain was previously removed from the center, and earlier this month, Israel ordered the expulsion of British representatives from the center and the closure of the British Consulate in East Jerusalem, in retaliation for British measures against trade with settlements.

Concurrently, Spain's charge d'affaires in Israel was summoned to the Foreign Ministry for a reprimand by G.C. This summons followed remarks by Spanish Minister of Youth and Children S.R., who stated that the Spanish public supports "a free Palestine from the river to the sea." The Israeli Foreign Ministry asserted that this slogan implies the erasure of Israel and characterized her remarks as part of what it deems the Spanish government's anti-Israel policy. The ministry recalled that S.R.'s entry into Israel was banned in September 2025, along with Spain's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor Y.D., a decision made in response to measures announced by Prime Minister P.S.'s government against Israel.
