Israel Recalls Envoy as Dutch Minister Summons Ambassador Over Settlement Ban
The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom de Bruijn, summoned Israel's ambassador to The Hague, Zvi Aviner-Vapni, following Israel's decision to revoke the diplomatic status of Dutch representatives in Ramallah. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had demanded that Dutch diplomats in Ramallah return their diplomatic documents within seven days, after which their privileges and immunities would cease. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that this move was a response to the Netherlands' ban on importing goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. Previously, Israel had also removed Dutch specialists from the international coordination center for Gaza in Kiryat Gat. Saar characterized the Dutch actions as "hostile" and warned that countries taking unilateral measures against Israel would lose influence in the region.
