A young Persian leopard cub, recently arrived from Sweden, has been named Deni in honor of NBA player Deni Avdija at the Ramat Gan Safari in Israel. The cub, born in June 2024, is part of a European breeding program aimed at conserving the endangered Persian leopard species. Safari officials selected Avdija's name to represent excellence, perseverance, hard work, and success. "We hope our Deni will also contribute to the success of the breeding program and the conservation of this rare species," said Hila Feldman Gra, the safari's spokesperson. Avdija expressed his excitement about the tribute, stating, "It's not every day a leopard is named after you. It's a great honor and a gesture that truly moved me. The leopard cub will have a few days to acclimate to his new surroundings before a gradual introduction to Noa, the safari's resident female Persian leopard, with the hope of future offspring.
