NBA Star Deni Avdija Honored as Persian Leopard Named After Him
A young Persian leopard, recently arrived from Sweden, has been named Deni in honor of NBA player Deni Avdija at the Ramat Gan Safari in Israel. The leopard, born in June 2024, is part of a European breeding program aimed at conserving the endangered Persian leopard species. Safari officials chose the name to represent excellence, perseverance, hard work, and success, qualities they associate with Avdija.
The safari hopes the leopard, Deni, will eventually be introduced to Noah, the park's female Persian leopard, with the goal of producing cubs and contributing to the species' survival. "It's a great honor and a gesture that truly moved me," Avdija stated, expressing his excitement and thanking the safari. He added that he looks forward to meeting his namesake.
Deni the leopard is currently being given time to acclimate to his new environment. The introduction process with Noah will commence gradually, at a pace that suits both animals.
