Israel's Election Commission Approves 38 Knesset Lists, Assigns Ballot Letters
Israel's Central Election Commission has approved 38 candidate lists for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections, assigning each a unique letter designation for the ballot. The commission, chaired by Judge Noam Solberg, finalized these designations on Tuesday.
Prominent parties received their traditional or new letter codes. The Likud party will use 'מחל', Gadi Eisenkot's party 'דרך', Naftali Bennett's list 'רק', Yair Golan's 'Democrats' will be 'אמת', Avigdor Lieberman's 'Yisrael Beiteinu' (Our Home is Israel) is 'ל', and Itamar Ben-Gvir's 'Otzma Yehudit' (Jewish Power) is 'ב'.
Two Arab political factions, Ra'am and the United Arab List, have been conditionally approved pending a Supreme Court decision. The commission had previously disqualified them based on Basic Law: The Knesset, Section 7(a). Two candidates from the United Arab List were also disqualified.
Separately, the commission denied the 'Garden of Eden' list, led by Yeshua Israel Ben David, its initial letter choice of 'יה'. This decision was made due to concerns that the sacred divine name could offend public and religious sensibilities. The list was instead assigned the letter 'ה'.
