Dozens of Israelis Stranded in Himalayas by Landslides
Dozens of Israeli tourists are stranded in the village of Samagaun, located at an altitude of approximately 3,500 meters in the Nepalese Himalayas. Extreme weather and rockfalls have blocked access to and from the area, according to Kan news.
The tourists reported ongoing collapses, describing hearing "monstrous rumbling every few hours, as if the whole earth is collapsing." They expressed fear of staying another night in the village.
Nepalese meteorologists had previously advised suspending treks in the Himalayas and urged tourists in the mountains to descend to safer areas due to heavy rains, snowfall, and the threat of floods and landslides. Samagaun has experienced snow and a sharp deterioration in weather conditions in recent days.
These weather-related events have caused significant casualties across India and Nepal. Reuters reported at least 19 deaths from floods and landslides: 15 in India's Uttar Pradesh state and four in Nepal. Additionally, ten people are missing after an avalanche in the Himlung Himal region.
