Police Seize Racing Camels at Illegal Negev Desert Event
Israeli police on Friday morning disrupted an illegal camel race being prepared on a military training ground in the Negev Desert. Law enforcement officers conducted a raid during the event's setup phase, acting on intelligence received early that morning about the planned races near Bir Hadaj, between highways 222 and 40, near the Mashabei Sadeh junction, on the training grounds of the Tze'elim army base.
Officers from the southern district, along with units from the Negev-Shalom police station, the "Yoav" unit, border police, and the National Guard, converged on the location. The operation was supported and coordinated by the Israeli police's aviation unit. As police arrived, vehicles began to disperse.
Acting on aerial guidance, officers discovered two minors hiding in bushes with a camel. Both were apprehended for questioning at the Negev-Shalom station, and the camel was confiscated. Police stated that this operation is part of a broader effort to detect and prevent camel racing through the combined efforts of intelligence, ground forces, and the aviation unit.
