Rabid Puppy Found Near Neve Tzuf Prompts Public Health Alert

Israel's Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that a rabid puppy was discovered near the settlement of Neve Tzuf (also known as Halamish) in the West Bank. The white puppy with brown spots was found on Road 450, having reportedly come from the direction of the town of Nahliel. So far, one person is known to have had contact with the animal, and an epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

The Ministry is urging anyone who came into contact with the infected puppy or any stray animals in the area of Road 450 near Neve Tzuf between September 9 and September 23, 2026, to immediately contact the health office in Ramla or their nearest health office to assess the need for preventative rabies treatment. Appointments are not required, and individuals should go to a hospital emergency room after hours or on weekends.

Parents are asked to inquire if their children encountered the puppy or other stray animals and seek health office consultation if necessary. Pet owners whose animals may have interacted with the infected puppy are advised to consult their local authority veterinarian for guidance.

The Ministry also reminded the public that any animal bite or scratch should be immediately washed with soap and running water for about 10 minutes, disinfected, and followed by a prompt visit to a health office to evaluate the need for post-exposure prophylaxis. No appointment is needed for this evaluation.
