Rabid Puppy Found in Central Israel Prompts Public Health Alert
The Israeli Ministry of Health reported on September 15th the discovery of a medium-sized, brown and white mixed-breed puppy diagnosed with rabies in the community of Ne'alim. Five individuals who had contact with the infected animal have been referred to the local health bureau for preventative treatment.
The public is urged to contact the health bureau immediately if they had any interaction with the puppy or other stray animals in the Ne'alim area between September 1st and September 15th. Those seeking assistance after work hours are directed to the emergency room. The Ministry also advised that in the event of a bite or scratch, the affected area should be washed thoroughly with soap and running water for approximately ten minutes before seeking immediate medical attention at a health bureau.
