Health Ministry Warns of Rabies Exposure Near Israeli Settlement

Israel's Ministry of Health issued an urgent warning to residents of the Benjamin region and surrounding areas after a dog puppy found near the settlement of Neve Tzuf was confirmed to be infected with rabies. The puppy, described as white with brown spots, was located on Route 450 near Neve Tzuf, having come from the direction of Nachliel.

So far, one person is known to have had contact with the infected puppy, and an epidemiological investigation is ongoing. The Ministry of Health is urging anyone who came into contact with the rabid puppy, or with any stray animal in the vicinity of Route 450 near Neve Tzuf between September 9 and September 23, 2026, to immediately seek medical evaluation for preventative rabies treatment. Contact can be made with the Ramla Health Bureau or any local health bureau without an appointment. After hours and on weekends, individuals should go directly to the emergency room of a hospital.

Parents in the area are asked to check with their children about any contact with the puppy or other stray animals and to seek medical attention if necessary. Pet owners whose animals may have come into contact with the infected puppy are instructed to contact their local veterinarian immediately for guidance and to help disseminate this information to others who were in the area or nearby settlements during the specified period.

The Ministry of Health also reminded the public that in the event of a bite or scratch from an animal, the wound should be immediately washed with soap and running water for approximately 10 minutes, disinfected, and medical attention sought promptly for preventative treatment.
