Rabies Alert Issued Near Israeli Settlement After Infected Puppy Found

The Israeli Ministry of Health issued a rabies alert on September 23, 2026, following the discovery of a puppy infected with the disease. The white puppy with brown spots was found on Route 450, near the settlement of Neve Tzuf (also known as Halamish) in the West Bank. The puppy had reportedly come from the direction of the settlement of Nachliel.

Authorities are aware of at least one person who had contact with the infected puppy, and an epidemiological investigation is ongoing. The Ministry of Health is urging anyone who came into contact with the infected puppy or any stray animals in the area of Route 450 near Neve Tzuf between September 9 and September 23, 2026, to urgently contact the Ramla District Health Office or their nearest health office. This is to assess the need for preventative treatment.

During evenings and weekends, individuals should report to the emergency room of a hospital. Parents are specifically asked to check with their children if they had any contact with the puppy or other stray animals in the area and seek medical attention if necessary. Pet owners whose animals may have had contact with the infected puppy are advised to consult their local veterinarian for guidance.

In the event of a bite or scratch from an animal suspected of having rabies, the affected area should be immediately washed with soap and running water for approximately 10 minutes, disinfected, and then medical attention should be sought promptly at a health office. No appointment is necessary for this evaluation.
