Two Israeli Reserve Soldiers Killed in Gaza Drone Incident
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Friday that two reserve soldiers, Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz, and Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, were killed during an operational activity in the Gaza Strip. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when the two soldiers, identified as squad leader and commander in the 7007th Battalion of the 16th Brigade, were operating a pre-approved drone.
The drone crashed inside an IDF outpost in northern Gaza for reasons yet to be determined. Kali and Moalem approached the crashed drone, and it is believed to have exploded when they picked it up. Both soldiers received initial treatment at the scene and were evacuated to Barzilai Hospital, where their deaths were pronounced. No other soldiers were injured in the incident.
Following the event, the IDF has temporarily halted the use of this type of drone pending the completion of an initial investigation, which will include a technical review.
