Fallen Soldier Ofeq Moalem's Twin Brother Mourns Loss

Sergeant First Class (Res.) Ofeq Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, was killed yesterday (Thursday) in northern Gaza alongside Sergeant First Class (Res.) Nadav Kali. The two soldiers, from Battalion 7007, approached a drone that had crashed inside a military post, at which point it exploded and struck them. The IDF is investigating the incident and has temporarily halted the use of that specific drone model for two days. Moalem, who was studying mechanical engineering at Azrieli College in Jerusalem, is survived by his parents, a twin brother, and a younger sister. His former teacher described him as a tall, well-built, intelligent, shy, and modest individual who was always the first to volunteer. He recalled Moalem's significant involvement in a volunteer effort during his senior year of high school, where he helped pick nearly three tons of lemons for a farmer, stating that Moalem's motivation was simply, "Someone needs us, we come. No question."

Moalem's close friend, Roi Almozino, shared that they had been best friends since birth and that Moalem was always positive and eager to help. Almozino mentioned that Moalem was happy during his reserve duty, having volunteered for many reserve duty days even when not called up. During his last reserve duty, Moalem became a commander and told Almozino he "couldn't sit on the sidelines and not work hard." Moalem will be laid to rest today at 12:00 PM at the Mount Herzl military cemetery.

Sergeant First Class (Res.) Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz in the Misgav Regional Council, is also survived by his parents and two siblings. He will be buried today at 1:00 PM in the Misgav cemetery. The Misgav Regional Council expressed its condolences to the Kali family.
