Police detained the head of a local authority on Monday morning, June 22, 2026, on suspicion of involvement in public corruption. The case was handled by the National Fraud Unit in Lahav 433, and the official is suspected of fraud and breach of trust, abuse of office, threats, building-code violations, and tax offenses.
The detention came as a covert investigation turned overt. Police also summoned additional senior officials in the authority for questioning, and carried out searches in homes and at the local council offices.
According to police, several enforcement and oversight bodies are involved in the probe, each within its own remit. These include the Civil Administration, the Israel Tax Authority, Israel Electric Corporation, the Civil Prosecution, and the Enforcement of Land Law Authority.
Police said, “In parallel, since this morning various investigative and enforcement actions have been carried out at several sites in the council area.” They added that the investigation is still in its early stages and that further steps are expected.
