Israel Police said Monday morning that the Lahav 433 National Unit for Fraud Investigations detained a local authority head for questioning on suspicion of involvement in public corruption. The case had been under covert investigation based on information received by the unit, and police said the probe was moved into an open phase this morning.
During the operation, police searched homes and the local authority offices, and additional senior officials in the authority were summoned for questioning. At the same time, investigators carried out a range of enforcement and investigative actions at several sites within the council area.
The operation involves several other enforcement and oversight bodies, including the Civil Administration, the Israel Tax Authority, the Israel Electric Corporation, the Civil Prosecution, and the Enforcement of Land Use Authority. Police said the investigation is still in its early stages and that further steps are expected.
The report comes amid broader public-corruption scrutiny, including another case in Nahariya mentioned in the article, where police allegedly wiretapped the deputy mayor’s office and the director general of the Religious Services Ministry was questioned on suspicion of integrity-related offenses.
