Israel Police said on Monday morning that investigators from the National Fraud Unit, Lahav 433, detained a head of a local authority for questioning in a suspected public corruption case. The inquiry began covertly after information reached the unit, and only after evidence was gathered did police move it into an open phase.
As part of the operation, the official was taken in for questioning while searches were being carried out at the suspect's home, at the local authority offices, and at additional locations. Senior figures in the authority were also summoned for questioning.
Police said the investigation is still in its early stages and more investigative steps are expected. They also said a broad enforcement effort is underway alongside the probe, with investigators carrying out actions at several sites across the council area.
The case involves multiple enforcement and oversight bodies, including the Civil Administration, the Israel Tax Authority, the Israel Electric Corporation, the Civil Prosecution, and the Enforcement of Land Use Authority. Police have not yet released further details about the suspects or the specific allegations.
