Israel Police say the National Fraud Investigation Unit, YAHAV 433, detained a local authority head on suspicion of involvement in public corruption. The move came after a covert investigation based on information received by the unit, which was turned into an open probe on Wednesday morning.
According to police, investigators detained the official for questioning and are carrying out searches at private homes and at the local authority. Additional senior officials in the authority were also summoned for questioning.
Police said that, alongside the detention and searches, various investigative and enforcement actions began in the morning at several sites in the municipality’s territory. The investigation is ongoing.
