Israel Police’s Lahav 433 anti-fraud unit opened a public investigation on Monday morning into a local authority chief on suspicion of public corruption. The official was detained for questioning after a period of covert intelligence gathering, and police said the case has now moved into an open enforcement operation.
As part of the probe, police are searching homes and municipal offices and have summoned additional senior council officials to give testimony under caution. Officers are also carrying out enforcement and investigative activity at several locations across the council area in an effort to collect evidence of possible wrongdoing by top municipal figures.
The investigation is being led by Lahav 433’s national fraud unit, known as YAHH, in coordination with several other state enforcement and oversight bodies, including the Civil Administration, the Israel Tax Authority, the Electric Company, the Civil Prosecution, and the Enforcement of Land Use Authority. Each is acting within its own authority to build the evidentiary picture in the case.
Police stressed that the operation is still in its early stages, and further enforcement steps are expected in the coming days. Investigators said more arrests or additional questioning of people involved in the municipality are possible.
