Israeli Police Seize Tens of Millions in Corruption Probe Involving Labor Union Chairman
Israeli police announced a significant development in the corruption investigation involving the Histadrut labor union, known as the "Yad Lochatz Yad" case. Arnon Bar-David, the chairman of the Histadrut, is suspected of receiving illicit benefits from insurance agent Ezra Gabai. The alleged benefits were in exchange for opening access to the most powerful workers' committees in the economy.
This morning, authorities seized tens of millions of shekels from the accounts of a public company and from personal accounts of some of its senior officials, who have previously been questioned in connection with the case. These senior figures are expected to be summoned for further interrogations by the Lahav 433 unit later this week.
The investigation centers on suspicions that Bar-David facilitated the signing and renewal of a pharmaceutical insurance policy within the Histadrut. In return, insurance agent Ezra Gabai received benefits and payments, leveraging his influence over Bar-David to promote and repeatedly renew the policy, thereby increasing the company's profits.
