Israeli Authorities Seize Tens of Millions in Labor Union Corruption Probe
Israeli investigators from the National Fraud Investigations Unit and Lahav 433 seized tens of millions of shekels from the bank accounts of a public company and several of its senior executives on Monday. The financial seizures are part of an ongoing investigation into corruption within the Histadrut labor federation, known as the "Yad Lohetz Yad" case. Authorities suspect that bribes and payments were made to insurance agent Ezra Gabay to influence Arnon Bar-David, the Histadrut chairman, to approve and renew a pharmaceutical insurance policy, thereby increasing the company's profits.
The investigation has strengthened suspicions against those involved, and several senior company officials are expected to be questioned further this week. The probe focuses on allegations that the public company promoted the signing and renewal of the policy through illicit benefits to Gabay, who leveraged his influence over Bar-David. The inquiry remains active, with additional developments anticipated.
Separately, the chairman of the Histadrut was released to house arrest amid the ongoing investigation. Police spokesperson Avshalom Shoshani confirmed that the evidence gathered so far supports the suspicions against the suspects in the case.
