IDF Deploys Major Division to West Bank Amid Security Concerns

The Israeli military is bolstering its forces in the West Bank with the deployment of the 98th Division headquarters, a significant maneuver aimed at enhancing security operations during the upcoming holiday season and in response to the current security situation. The division's command will oversee regional brigades in Judea and Samaria, enabling more effective and lethal counter-terrorism and defensive operations.

The 98th Division has been on high alert since receiving its orders several months ago and completed readiness drills earlier this month. The deployment is a proactive measure to address potential escalations. The division has been integrating lessons learned from recent operational experience and adapting its capabilities to the specific challenges of the Judea and Samaria region.

Major General Avi Blout, commander of the Central Command, emphasized the need for proactive and offensive operations, stating, "We are not in a 'war tomorrow' mindset, but a 'war today!' and that is how we must act." He highlighted that operational plans have been approved, thoroughly drilled, and incorporate lessons from the October 7th attacks. Blout stressed the command's initiative in tackling threats while they are small and operating offensively.

Since receiving the deployment order yesterday evening, the 98th Division headquarters has been engaged in learning sessions with the regional command and brigades, conducting assessments, gathering intelligence, and preparing control aids. The division headquarters is expected to officially assume command of the brigades tomorrow afternoon. The IDF confirmed that forces in the Central Command are already operating at an increased capacity throughout Judea and Samaria, with intensified counter-terrorism operations ahead of the Hanukkah holiday.
