Supermarket Chain Osher Ad Enters Israeli Mobile Market
Israeli supermarket chain Osher Ad is entering the mobile phone and technology market by selling imported iPhone Pro models at a discounted price of 4,490 shekels. This move introduces a model familiar from large international retailers like Costco in the United States, which offer advanced electronics alongside groceries, potentially altering Israeli consumer habits.
Technology reporter Guy Shahar explained on "Haolam Boker" that the sale currently features the 256GB iPhone Pro version. The use of parallel import allows Osher Ad to offer the devices at a lower price than authorized dealers, creating a significant disruption in the local mobile market.
Shahar noted a key difference for consumers: these parallel import iPhones exclusively use eSIM and lack a physical SIM card tray. This design choice enables a larger battery, potentially offering longer battery life.
Osher Ad's entry into selling parallel imported iPhones is prompting a reevaluation within the entire industry. The significant price difference compared to competitors and the official distributor is forcing the market to adapt. This consumer dynamic is expected to trigger responses from other electronics and mobile retailers, who may need to offer special promotions, benefits, or adjust their pricing to remain competitive.
