Israel Eliminates Hamas Finance Chief in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency announced Wednesday the successful elimination of Muhammad Abu Alwan, identified as Hamas's head of finance, in an operation in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

According to security forces, Abu Alwan was responsible for budgeting the organization's systems and had recently been working to restore Hamas's capabilities. He had been active in the finance department for about a decade. During the recent war, over one billion shekels were transferred under his direction to fund Hamas's operations, which security forces stated helped the organization maintain control of Gaza and its ability to continue functioning.

Security officials further reported that Abu Alwan had systematically violated the ceasefire agreement while working to rebuild Hamas's capacities. The strike was intended to neutralize the threat he posed. The IDF and Shin Bet affirmed their ongoing efforts to target Hamas's funding sources, including money changers and facilitators involved in transferring hundreds of millions of dollars.

Following the strike, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement praising the IDF and Shin Bet for the precise operation. They declared, "We continue to pursue Hamas commanders and operatives, to strike its funding sources, and to destroy its terror infrastructure. We will not allow Hamas to rebuild its strength and will not stop until Hamas is no longer in Gaza."
