Jerusalem Synagogue Fire Damages Torah Scrolls
A fire broke out today in a temporary structure housing a synagogue in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem, damaging several Torah scrolls. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Uma precinct were dispatched to the scene on Shaarei Pinah Street after receiving reports of heavy smoke. Upon arrival, they encountered a developed blaze and immediately began extinguishing the flames and searching the structure. Fire and Rescue Services confirmed that their searches ruled out the presence of anyone trapped inside.
During the operation, firefighters rescued several Torah scrolls from the burning building. The incident commander, Fire Superintendent Shai Nehemia, stated, "The firefighters acted with determination in the developed fire in the temporary structure and conducted rapid searches that ruled out the presence of trapped individuals. During the operation, the teams rescued several Torah scrolls from the fire. At this stage, we are concentrating efforts on final extinguishment, and the incident is nearing containment."
