Firefighters Rescue Torah Scrolls from Burning Synagogue
A fire broke out in a temporary structure serving as a synagogue on Wednesday, prompting a significant response from fire and rescue teams. Firefighters battled intense heat and smoke as they worked to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to nearby buildings.
During their search of the smoke-filled structure, rescue crews confirmed that no one was trapped inside. The primary focus then shifted to rescuing several Torah scrolls that were inside the building and had been damaged by the fire.
Incident commander, Fire Commissioner Major Shai Nehemia, stated, "The firefighters acted with determination in the developing fire in the temporary structure and conducted rapid searches that ruled out the presence of trapped individuals. During the operations, the teams rescued several Torah scrolls from the fire. At this stage, we are concentrating efforts on final extinguishment, and the incident is nearing containment."
Fire investigators are expected to begin examining the cause of the fire once the scene is fully secured and the blaze is completely extinguished.
