Massive Fire Engulfs Jerusalem Residential Building

A large and unusual fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a residential building in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim, on Shaarei Pinah Street. Intense flames spread rapidly, prompting the deployment of dozens of emergency and rescue teams. Initial fears of trapped residents were allayed as rapid searches by firefighters confirmed no one was caught inside the apartments.

Dramatic footage from the scene showed fierce flames erupting from upper floors of the building, engulfing the roof and exterior walls, and sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

During the firefighting efforts, several Torah scrolls were significantly damaged by the fire and had to be rescued by firefighters, described as being in a "not good" condition. The incident commander, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Shai Nehemia, stated that firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the blaze in the temporary structure and conducted rapid searches that ruled out trapped individuals. He added that the fire was nearing containment.

The police reported that officers were dispatched to the scene to assist in evacuating residents, ensuring human safety, and facilitating the work of emergency responders. They also managed traffic in the area and urged the public to avoid the vicinity to allow rescue forces to operate unimpeded.

Israel Fire and Rescue Services confirmed receiving the report of the fire, characterized by heavy smoke. Reinforced teams were dispatched and immediately began efforts to extinguish the blaze while simultaneously conducting extensive searches for potential trapped individuals.
