Democrats Threaten Legal Action Against Shin Bet Chief Over Golan's Security

The Democratic Party has issued an ultimatum to Shin Bet Director David Zini, demanding he authorize security detail for party chairman Yair Golan. The party stated that if Zini does not act by Sunday, they will petition the High Court of Justice against him.

This action follows a decision by the Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs, chaired by Justice Minister Yariv Levin, made a week prior. The committee authorized the Shin Bet to determine security needs for party leaders lacking protection until the 26th Knesset is sworn in. Levin was the sole attendee at the meeting and stipulated that Zini must decide on security packages for Gadi Eisenkot, Yair Golan, and Ofir Winter.

As of now, no decision has been made regarding Golan's security. The Democratic Party asserts that Golan's threat level is rated 4 out of 6 by the police, similar to Gadi Eisenkot. The party claims the letter to Zini details documented threats against Golan and his family, including calls for his murder and the use of firearms.

The Democrats emphasized the severity of the threats and intelligence concerning Golan, warning that inaction could endanger his life, potentially in the near future. They urged Zini to disregard political considerations and make a state-level decision.
