Yair Golan Demands Security Detail from Shin Bet Chief, Threatens High Court

The "Democrats" party has formally requested that Shin Bet Director David Zini assign a security detail to party chairman and former IDF General Yair Golan. The party announced on Wednesday that if no decision is made by Sunday, they intend to petition the High Court of Justice.

In a letter sent by the party's legal counsel, Adv. Omri Segev, it was argued that Golan and his family have received explicit and documented threats, including calls for harm. The party stated that the Israel Police have raised Golan's threat level to 4 out of 6, which they claim is equivalent to the level assigned to Gadi Eisenkot.

Furthermore, the letter alleged that Golan's name was the only one among party leaders to appear in a threatening letter attached to a brick thrown at the Channel 12 news studios. The Democrats assert that the Shin Bet Director is responsible for deciding on security for Knesset candidates.

"Ignoring the severity of the threats directed at the chairman of the Democrats party... could lead to harm to his life," wrote Segev, urging Zini to make a substantive decision on the matter. The Shin Bet has not yet responded to the demand.
