Yair Golan's Party Threatens High Court Over Security Concerns

The "Democrats" party, led by Yair Golan, has issued a stern warning to the head of the Shin Bet, David Zini, demanding immediate security arrangements for Golan. The party stated they will petition the High Court of Justice if security is not provided by September 27th.

This demand follows a recommendation by the Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs to grant the Shin Bet chief the authority to decide on the security of party leaders who are not currently ministers or Knesset members. The Democrats argue that Golan's risk level has been elevated to level 4 by the Israel Police, placing him in a similar security category as former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot.

The party's legal counsel, Omri Segev, detailed explicit and documented threats against Golan and his family in the letter. These include Golan's name appearing in a threat letter attached to a brick thrown at Channel 12 news studios.

The Democrats contend that the Shin Bet is responsible for safeguarding the democratic order and that the ministerial committee has transferred the authority for securing candidates to the Shin Bet chief. They urged Zini to disregard political considerations and make a state-appropriate decision, warning that ignoring the threats could endanger Golan's life.
