Democrats Party Threatens High Court Action Over Yair Golan's Security Detail

The Democrats party has sent an ultimatum to Shin Bet Director David Zini, demanding security protection for party chairman Yair Golan. The party claims Golan has been classified by the police as a risk level 4 out of 6, a level they state is equivalent to that assigned to Gadi Eisenkot. The Democrats have set a deadline of September 27 for a response, after which they intend to petition the High Court of Justice if their demand is not met.

In a letter sent via their legal counsel, Adv. Omri Segev, the party detailed explicit and documented threats against Golan and his family, including calls for his murder and the use of firearms. They also noted that Golan's name was included in a threatening letter attached to a rock thrown at Channel 12 studios, making him the only party leader to be so targeted.

The Democrats argue that the Shin Bet chief bears responsibility for Golan's security, citing the agency's role in safeguarding democratic institutions. They assert that the Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs has transferred the authority and responsibility for protecting Knesset candidates to the Shin Bet director.

Segev warned Zini that ignoring the severity of the threats and intelligence regarding Golan could lead to harm, potentially in the near future. He urged the Shin Bet director to disregard political noise and make a state-appropriate decision. The party reiterated its intention to approach the High Court if security is not approved by the September 27 deadline.
