Infant Dies in Jerusalem Area After Not Waking From Sleep

A three-month-old infant died in the city of Beit Shemesh on Tuesday morning after failing to wake up from sleep at his home on Or Sameach Street. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and performed resuscitation efforts before transporting the baby to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Medical staff at the hospital were forced to declare the infant deceased.

Following the tragedy, Rabbi Avraham Kof, commander of ZAKA (Disaster Victim Identification) in Beit Shemesh, and his deputy, Yosef Chaim Houzi, arrived to assist the family. They worked with relevant authorities to release the infant's body for burial without the need for an autopsy at the forensic institute.

The infant's funeral was scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Derech HaChaim cemetery in the city. Earlier reports indicated the baby was evacuated to the hospital in critical condition after not waking from his sleep. Medical teams were dispatched to the home after the family reported the infant was unconscious.

Paramedics from United Hatzalah's "Koach Hatzala" unit, Moshe Shechter and brothers Asher and Yaakov Yungreis, provided initial medical treatment. "His family told us the infant did not wake from his sleep," the paramedics stated. "We performed resuscitation efforts and he was evacuated for further medical treatment at the hospital while his condition was defined as critical."
