Infant Dies in Jerusalem Hospital After Not Waking Up
A three-month-old infant, Elimelech Bloch, died on Sunday morning in the city of Beit Shemesh after he did not wake up from his sleep. Emergency services were called to the family home on Or Sameach Street and performed prolonged resuscitation efforts before transporting the baby to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, continuing resuscitation en route. Tragically, medical personnel at the hospital were forced to declare the infant deceased.
Paramedics described finding the baby without a pulse or breathing. "When we arrived at the scene, we were handed a three-month-old baby, without a pulse and without breathing, after according to his family members, he did not wake up from his sleep," said United Hatzalah volunteers Israel Cohen and Yitzchak Zalmanov.
The infant was evacuated by an MDA intensive care unit to the trauma room at the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Following the efforts of ZAKA Beit Shemesh commanders, the infant's body was released for burial without the need for an autopsy at the Forensic Institute.
His funeral was scheduled to take place on Sunday at 1:00 PM at the "Derech HaChaim" cemetery in Beit Shemesh.
