Kan News Director Itzik Barashi Dies in Cycling Accident

Itzik Barashi, a director at the news division of the public broadcaster Kan, died Saturday morning after a cycling accident on Highway 44 near the Nesherim interchange, close to Ramla. Barashi, 54, was seriously injured and taken to Shamir-Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead. His funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Emergency services received a report of the accident at 8:02 AM. Paramedics found Barashi unconscious with a severe head injury. They provided medical treatment and transported him by intensive care ambulance to the hospital, where his death was confirmed. One paramedic described finding the cyclist on the road, unconscious and with a severe head injury, and initiating treatment including assisted ventilation and medication before the hospital transport.

Kan News announced Barashi's death, noting he had worked at the news division for years. The broadcaster stated that Barashi joined Kan in 2018, shortly after its establishment, and had served with professionalism and commitment through routine broadcasts and wartime. They described him as one of Kan News's most professional and talented directors and extended condolences to his wife Shirley, his children Keran, Roi, and Itai, and his family and colleagues.

Journalist Ayelet Hasson also eulogized Barashi on Facebook, calling him their "beloved director from the news." She wrote that the day began with "bitter news" of his death while cycling, lamenting that he left behind a wife and three children. Hasson mentioned that Barashi was scheduled to work with her that day, as he had for countless broadcasts. She described him as a family man, devoted father, excellent professional, and most importantly, a good person and friend, adding that she would miss him greatly.
