Kaan News Director Itzik Barashi Dies in Cycling Accident

Itzik Barashi, a 54-year-old director at Kaan News, died Saturday after a serious cycling accident on Highway 44 near the Nesherim interchange. Barashi was critically injured during the ride and was evacuated to Shamir-Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, where his death was later confirmed.

Emergency services received the report of the accident at 8:02 AM. Paramedics found Barashi unconscious with a severe head injury. They provided him with medical treatment, including ventilation and medication, before transporting him to the hospital in critical condition.

Barashi joined the Broadcasting Corporation in 2018 and served as a director in the news division, covering both routine broadcasts and wartime events. Kaan News described him as one of the division's most professional and talented directors.

A friend who was cycling with Barashi that morning recounted their routine Saturday ride, stating that everything was fine until the end of their approximately three-hour journey. "Dear Itzik, you were a model friend, a true friend. It's hard to grasp that a ride that started like every Saturday ended with a farewell to you," he wrote on Facebook.

Journalist Ayala Hasson also mourned Barashi, noting he was scheduled to work with her on that evening's broadcast. Barashi is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their three children.
