Kaan News Director Itzik Barashi Dies in Cycling Accident

Itzik Barashi, a 54-year-old director at Kaan News, died Saturday after a severe cycling accident on Highway 44 near the Nesherim interchange. Barashi sustained critical head injuries during the ride and was evacuated by MDA paramedics to Shamir-Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, where his death was later pronounced. The emergency services received the report of the accident at 8:02 AM. Paramedics found Barashi unconscious and suffering from a severe head wound, providing him with resuscitation, bandaging, and medication before transporting him to the hospital in critical condition.

Barashi joined the Broadcasting Corporation in 2018, shortly after its establishment, and served as a director in the news division. Kaan News eulogized him as one of the division's most professional and talented directors, who covered both routine broadcasts and the war. The corporation stated, "Kaan News mourns the death of our colleague, Itzik Barashi."

A friend who was cycling with Barashi that morning described their routine Saturday group ride. He recounted that after a break, they continued for about three hours, stating, "We rode together, everything was wonderful, and we reached the finish line." He added, "Dear Itzik, you were a model friend, a true friend. It is hard to grasp that a ride that began like every Saturday ended with a farewell to you."

Journalist Ayala Hasson also paid tribute, noting that Barashi was scheduled to work with her on that evening's broadcast. Barashi is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their three children: Keran, Roi, and Itai. Funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
