Five Israelis Die in Single Day Road Accidents

Five Israelis lost their lives in separate road accidents across the country on Thursday, marking one of the deadliest days on Israeli roads in 2026. The day's fatalities bring the total for the year to a high, following August which was already recorded as the deadliest month.

The first incident occurred in central Israel when police pursued a car thief from Nablus. During the chase, the suspect struck a cyclist, who later died from his injuries in the hospital. The second accident involved a head-on collision between two vehicles on Route 310, near the southern community of Givatayim Bar. Two men in their 30s died at the scene from severe multi-system trauma.

Later, a man in his 70s was killed in a collision between a bus and a taxi on the Alonim highway. He was trapped in his vehicle and pronounced dead after showing no signs of life. The final fatality occurred on Route 780, near Kiryat Ata, where a motorcyclist in his mid-30s was struck and killed by a car.

According to data from the National Road Safety Authority, the deadliest day on record for 2026 was May 3rd, when six people died in road accidents within a 24-hour period.
