Israeli Coach Mody Maor Joins Dallas Mavericks as Assistant
Israeli basketball coach Mody Maor has officially been appointed as an assistant coach for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. The team announced its coaching staff for the 2026-27 season on Friday, with Maor joining Dusty May's team. Maor, 40, previously coached in New Zealand and Japan, most recently leading Nagasaki to their first championship in club history after a stellar regular season.
Maor's coaching career includes a stint as head coach of Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel before he moved abroad in 2019. He served as an assistant under Dan Shamir for the New Zealand Breakers and later became their head coach. He then moved to Japan, coaching Nagasaki for the past two years.
This move to the NBA follows a prior agreement Maor had made in May to join May's coaching staff at the University of Michigan. When May transitioned from Michigan to coach the Mavericks, Maor followed, culminating in his official appointment to the NBA team. Quincy Acy will also continue on the Mavericks' coaching staff.
