Israeli Coach Mody Maor Joins Dallas Mavericks as Assistant

Israeli basketball coach Mody Maor has been officially appointed as an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, marking a significant achievement for Israeli sports. The global basketball powerhouse announced its full coaching staff for the 2026-27 season, with Maor serving as a planner and consultant under head coach Jason Kidd. The 40-year-old Maor's journey to the NBA includes a notable international career. He previously coached Hapoel Jerusalem and served as an assistant for Hapoel Holon before embarking on international coaching in 2019. He began as an assistant to Dan Shamir at the New Zealand Breakers, later becoming their head coach. For the past two years, Maor coached Nagasaki Velca in Japan, leading them to a historic championship and breaking club records. Maor had previously agreed to join the coaching staff of Michigan University at the direct request of coach Jason Kidd. When Kidd accepted the prestigious position with the Mavericks, he decided to bring Maor with him to the NBA. The appointment is now official, and Maor will join former player Quincy Acy on the Mavericks' coaching staff.
