Mody Maor Named Assistant Coach for Dallas Mavericks

Mody Maor has been officially appointed as an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, marking a significant career advancement. The team announced its coaching staff for the 2026-27 season on Friday, with Maor joining as one of head coach Jason Kidd's assistants. Maor, 40, previously served as head coach in the New Zealand and Japanese leagues. He spent the last decade coaching Hapoel Jerusalem before moving abroad in 2019. He initially worked as an assistant coach for Dan Shamir at the New Zealand Breakers, later becoming their head coach. Subsequently, he moved to Japan, coaching Nagasaki Velca for the past two years. Under Maor's leadership, Nagasaki achieved its first league championship, boasting the best regular-season record. This move to the NBA follows his successful tenure in Japan. Maor had previously agreed in May to join Dusty May's coaching staff at the University of Michigan at May's request. When May transitioned from Michigan to coach the Mavericks, Maor followed, culminating in his official appointment. Quincy Acy will also remain on the Mavericks' coaching staff.
