Israeli Coach Mody Maor Joins Dallas Mavericks as Assistant Coach

Israeli basketball coach Mody Maor is set to join the Dallas Mavericks coaching staff, according to reports from the United States on Friday. Maor, who has spent recent years coaching in the Australian and Japanese leagues, is expected to transition from the University of Michigan to the NBA team. This move follows the appointment of Dusty May as the Mavericks' head coach, who previously coached at Michigan and brought Maor to the university in May.

Maor, 40, has shown significant career progression over the past decade. He began his coaching career in 2012 as an assistant coach with Israeli teams Hapoel Holon, Maccabi Ashdod, and Hapoel Jerusalem, where he briefly served as head coach before being replaced by Oded Katash. Throughout his early career, Maor worked under notable coaches such as Dan Shamir, Lior Lubin, and Zvika Sherf.

In 2019, Maor moved to the New Zealand Breakers and was promoted to head coach in 2022. He later coached Nagasaki Velca in Japan, leading them to a historic championship. This success paved the way for his role at Michigan and now his entry into the NBA with Dallas.
