Israeli Coach Mody Maor Joins Dallas Mavericks as Assistant Coach
The Dallas Mavericks have officially announced that Israeli basketball coach Mody Maor will join their coaching staff as an assistant coach. Maor, who has coached in the Australian and Japanese leagues in recent years, was previously rumored to be making the move from the University of Michigan to the NBA.
Maor joins the Mavericks' professional staff under head coach Jason Kidd, following Dusty May, who left the University of Michigan to take the head coaching position in Dallas. May was instrumental in bringing Maor to Michigan last May.
The 40-year-old coach has made significant progress in his career over the past decade. He began his coaching journey in 2012 as an assistant coach for Hapoel Holon, Maccabi Ashdod, and Hapoel Jerusalem, where he briefly served as head coach before being replaced by Oded Katash. He also worked under coaches Dan Shamir, Lior Lubin, and Zvika Sherf.
In 2019, Maor moved to the New Zealand Breakers, becoming their head coach in 2022. He subsequently coached in Japan for Nagasaki, leading them to a historic championship, an achievement that paved his way to Michigan and now the NBA.
