Israeli Coach Mody Maor Joins Dallas Mavericks as Assistant

Mody Maor has officially been appointed as an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, joining the professional staff under head coach Jason Kidd for the 2026-27 season. The 40-year-old Israeli coach was named to the list of assistant coaches alongside Willie Green, Garrett Temple, Joe Boylan, Drew Williamson, Rob Fodor, and Sam Haršberger.

This move marks another rapid advancement in Maor's coaching career. He was appointed assistant coach at Michigan under Jason Kidd just last May but had a brief stint with the college program. When Kidd left Michigan to take the head coaching position with the Mavericks, he chose to bring Maor with him to his new NBA staff.

Maor began his coaching career in 2012, serving as an assistant coach for several Israeli teams, including Hapoel Holon, Maccabi Ashdod, and Hapoel Jerusalem. He was promoted to head coach in Jerusalem before moving overseas. In 2019, he joined the New Zealand Breakers, eventually becoming their head coach, and later coached Nagasaki Velca in Japan.

In Japan, Maor achieved a significant career milestone by leading Nagasaki to a historic championship. The team finished the regular season with the league's best record and went on to win the title. This success paved the way for his move to Michigan and now, in a short period, to the Mavericks' bench.

Kidd is assembling a diverse staff for the Mavericks, incorporating experience from both the NBA and international basketball. Maor brings substantial international basketball background to the team, completing a significant leap from his previous roles in Israel, New Zealand, Japan, and college basketball to the world's premier league.
