Maccabi Tel Aviv expects to appoint a new coach soon as it plans for 2026/27
Maccabi Tel Aviv is preparing for the 2026/27 season and, after appointing Steven Van Nahar as the club’s new sporting director, is now searching for its next head coach. According to estimates around the club, a new coach is expected to arrive by the start of next week, join the team’s preseason buildup, and take part in preparations for European matches.
The coaching search comes as the club also waits for developments in the case of Dor Peretz. Maccabi’s offer to the midfielder remains unchanged, and no further meeting between the sides has been scheduled. Van Nahar’s arrival has not yet changed the situation, though he may later try to meet Peretz about the matter.
Inside the club, officials said the final say lies with owner Mitz Goldhar. “In the end, the address is Mitz Goldhar,” they said. “Everyone wants Peretz, that is clear to everyone, but the one who pays and the only person who can improve the offer is Mitz Goldhar.”
On the transfer front, Maccabi’s first priorities are a foreign center back and a foreign striker. Meanwhile, Yon Nikolascu’s recovery is taking longer than expected, and the striker is not expected to start the season with the squad.
