Maccabi Tel Aviv is still without a head coach, eight days after appointing a new sporting director, Steven Van Herhen. The club is trying to replace Kenny Miller, who left at the end of the season, but it has run into unexpected obstacles in the coaching search.
According to sources around the club, the fighting with Iran about 10 days ago damaged efforts to bring in a coach and likely caused one deal that was already closed, plus at least one other candidate, to fall through. That is the main reason the club has not yet announced a coach for next season.
Even so, the expectation is that Van Herhen will continue interviewing candidates, and a new coach should arrive by the start of next week, before training begins on Monday. As things stand, there is no change yet regarding Dor Peretz, while the club keeps working on squad reinforcements.
Maccabi Tel Aviv is first looking for a foreign center back and a foreign striker, and may also seek a foreign fullback if Roy Revivo leaves for abroad.
