Maccabi Tel Aviv still has not appointed a head coach, eight days after naming Steven Vananhen as its new sporting director. The club has been trying to replace Kenny Miller, who left at the end of the season, but the search has run into unexpected problems.
According to sources around the club, the fighting with Iran about 10 days ago disrupted the effort to bring in a coach. One deal that was apparently already closed, and at least one other candidate, were reportedly derailed by the situation. That is the main reason Maccabi has not yet announced its coach for next season.
Despite the setback, Vananhen is expected to continue interviewing candidates, and the club believes a new coach should arrive by the start of next week, before training begins on Monday. For now, there is also no change regarding Dor Peretz, who remains in place while the coaching situation is unresolved.
Maccabi is also working on squad reinforcements. The club is looking first for a foreign center back and a foreign striker, and also for a foreign fullback if Roy Revivo leaves for a club abroad.
