Rabid Fox Found in Samaria; 16 Exposed Individuals Seek Treatment
The Israeli Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that a fox infected with rabies was discovered in the settlement of Karnei Shomron and a nearby base in the Samaria region. Sixteen individuals who had contact with the rabid animal have been directed to receive preventative treatment against rabies, and an epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
The Ministry of Health is urging anyone who may have come into contact with the infected fox, or other stray animals in the area, between August 31 and September 13, 2026, to immediately contact the Health Bureau in Petah Tikva. Outside of working hours and on weekends, individuals are advised to go to the emergency room at a hospital.
Parents are asked to check with their children about any contact with suspicious animals and to urgently contact the Health Bureau. Pet owners are instructed to consult their local veterinarian to confirm their animals' vaccination status. The public is also advised to share this information with others traveling or vacationing in the area and nearby communities.
